What is an SBT?
For those of you who travel constantly for business, you might have already begun to notice the same shift to online booking has occurred for business travel as it has for leisure travel. Even though the adaption hasn't occured as rapid or as quickly as it has in the consumer space, businesses now more than ever are starting to see the value of implementing easy booking tools for thier company! The majority of corporate travel is now booked online, whether directly with an airline or hotel, through an OTA, or through an official corporate system known as an Self booking tool (SBT). In contrast to consumer-focused sites, a SBT is a specifically designed to meet a corporation’s needs around policy compliance, reporting, duty of care tracking, and preferred vendor usage
From the perspective of travel managers, SBTs offer several benefits over corporate agents and open market alternatives. But what about the business traveler’s perspective? Surveys indicate that most employees generally prefer self-service booking, but not necessarily through their company’s SBT. Why is that? The answer is quite simple, theirs no incetive for them to do so! Revolinks is changing that with Elara CTB-SBT! In a recent 2016 study conducted by Skift, 62% of travelers said they believed the advantages of SBTs outweighed the drawbacks. Coincidentally perhaps, the same survey found that 61% of booking transactions were initiated online - a number that has increased drasticaly in subsequent years. This year, research from the Global Business Travel Association provided an updated look at travelers’ preferred booking methods:
- 82% of travelers surveyed had a company-provided SBT and have used it within the past year.
- 23% of those travelers had also worked with an agent at a travel management company (TMC) to book a trip.
- 40% also booked a trip outside of the company's SBT, either directly with a supplier or through a travel site.
